Oooh well, just as everything seemed to have fallen into place with flight rebooked, Hotel room with extra night added. Lift to airport sorted, it was just a case of pack and go. (Ya think?)
I was flying out on the same Eastern Airlines plane, with another Volunteer, Whendie. We have been at various games together but our paths haven't crossed very often.
We arrived at Southampton Airport around 3.15pm, for our 5.10pm flight. Checked in our bags and headed through customs and the duty free shop to departures and decided to get a drink while we waited. We'd just paid for the drinks when an announcement came over the tannoy that the flight had been cancelled so report to Gate 9 and we'd be briefed. Is nothing straightforward?
Due to "Operational" reasons there would be no flight today, next available was Wednesday. Touch of deja vu, as that's the one I was moved to before.
Um... thanks but we need to get there for tomorrow.
Having retrieved our suitcases we lodged our names at the desk, so the Airline would be notified. I'm rather hoping the flight back home isn't cancelled, so I emailed the Airline immediately to make sure we still get our return flight.
So.... what to do now?
One of the passengers booked a flight from Heathrow, so off he went. One lady was in tears as she had an important meeting tomorrow and the young lady at the desk was less than helpful to her.
We tried to persuade her to come with us as we decided to head to London and then catch the Eurostar. But she was too upset, so decided just to head home to Bournemouth. I do hope she can do her meeting via zoom or similar.
Whendie and I got on the train into London Waterloo and after a sandwich search (which we decided not to get) we got the tube across to St Pancras.
Having sorted our Eurostar tickets so we could sit together we went yet again through customs and had a well deserved drink, while waiting to depart.
The train left at 8.01pm (the time we'd have already been in Paris) arriving at 11.18pm (10.18 UK time). The journey was speedy and uneventful.
The hotel I was staying in was just across the road so it was easy to find. Whendie booked herself a "bolt" to get to her accommodation and as she set off I went to check into the hotel.
Small but perfectly formed room, I eventually settled in for the night.
And... I'm here 😀 Tuesday is another day!!!!
